Through the years the rugged individualism of the American cowboy has become a symbol throughout the world for this nation and its people. In this new sculpture, Against the Wind, a cowboy is depicted obviously buffeted by strong winds, holding his hat and determined to ride out the storm. My idea was to use this as a metaphor for the winds of adversity and change blowing across our country today. As our way of life, even the very beliefs and principles upon which this nation was founded are being challenged. I'm confident America, its people, and its foundational ideas will prevail.
