The Kachina Dancers Collection.
In their corporeal manifestations the kachinas bring much needed rain, present gifts, and provide entertainment for Indians. Because of their vast, life-or-death influence over the affairs of men, kachinas are honored in ceremony after ceremony. Masked dancers, the Kachina impersonators, who believe themselves to be the embodiment of these spirits - a belief shared by other members of the tribe - lead the celebrations.

Eototo Kachina by Christopher Pardell, Legends Kachina Dancers Collection

One of the kachinas that appears each year is Eototo, the "father" of the kachinas. He is the chief of all kachinas and knows every ceremony. Eototo participates in the ceremonial blessing of the villages, marking each one so that the clouds will come to the pueblo and the crops will grow and flourish. The activities of his blessing range from Eototo creating symbols of cornmeal clouds on the ground to pouring water into a hole which represents the town reservoirs, At each blessing, Eototo is given prayer feathers and the kiva chief takes some of the corn sprouts that he carries in his arms.
