Magic takes a great deal of care, and here it is created in a unique collaboration between the finest artists, sculptors, mold makers, painters, and other exceptional craftspeople - all part of
an intricate process which can take up to eighteen months. Each precious work of art is distinguished by a "year mark" and the artist's signature; and each is accompanied by a handsome Certificate of Authenticity. What truly sets
The Greenwich Workshop Collection apart is that fine artists collaborate in every step of the process.
Step 1: The artist already applauded by art critics and collectors alike creates a work of art, either as a sketch,
drawing, etching, or painting. Step 2: The artist and a highly-skilled, hand-picked, master sculptor create a clay original from this two-dimensional piece of art, striving for as much detail as possible-often enhancing the clay
sculpture with beads and other accessories. Step 3: A specially chosen, expert mold maker develops many intricate latex molds and epoxy-resin castings-using as many as forty-five pieces-to recreate the original sculpture,
resulting in a prototype clay sculpture. Step 4: Only after the artist approves the prototype does the process of porcelain production begin, only now using new, specially-made molds, using as many molds as needed to realize the
artist's intricate vision. Liquid porcelain, or "slip", is poured into these individual molds. Step 5: Once solidified, these components-colorless resin known as "greenware"-are removed from the individual molds. Step 6:
Through precise joining of greenware components, the complete figurine is assembled. Then it is fired in a kiln at 1700F for seventeen to twenty-four hours, creating a smooth porcelain sculpture known as "whiteware." Step 7: The
artist paints an original version of this whiteware defining detail, color, and tints that make this a work of art. Step 8: Skilled craftspeople replicate the artist's painted model through hand-applied paints and special
finishes-in some cases, using as many as forty colors or more. Step 9: The painted porcelain is enhanced with brass, bronze and pewter, and often times decorated with semiprecious stones. Step 10: Each individual piece is
then put through rigorous quality control set by each artist and The Greenwich Workshop. Only then are our exceptional, exquisitely detailed, vibrant
colored works of art in porcelain ready for you. |
