The Wilderness forest in Northern Virginia between Washington and Richmond, May 6, 1864, Robert E. Lee, the South's beloved General, seems hypnotized by the sight of Union troops so close to his headquarters and urges a Texas support group against them. He waves his hat to cheer them on and Traveler starts moving forward with the advancing line. The Southern troops are horrified when they see their General risking himself so boldly. A sergeant runs out of the line and grabs the bridle. It's then that General Lee realizes what's happening and slowly turns Traveler. A monument placed at the site years later reads: "Lee to the rear,' cried the Texans," and this shining moment enters American folklore with the finest traditions of a people's past.
